Cracknels
Our very first and the signature product of Van den Berg. Made with a yeasted dough that is unique to our sweet biscuits. The knot shape derives from the product’s traditional association with wedding parties.
Van den Berg’s Cracknels (known in Dutch as ‘Krakelingen’) have been made by artisan methods since 1922, when Grandfather Cor’s original recipe was created.
Over the years we’ve invented some new, delicious variations on the theme, in the form of our Cinnamon Sticks and Caramel Twists.
All our sweet biscuit recipes use only natural ingredients, but their unique taste and bite comes from the fact that we’re the only bakery who still uses live yeast (and not baking powder) in our recipes.
